Bamboo Grove Plantation
Irrigation system for a bamboo grove in Piedmont
The plant near Ivrea (Piedmont) has an area of 15 hectares and irrigates a bamboo plantation of 18,000 plants with a planting space of 2.8 x 2.8 m, divided into 6 shifts of 2.5 ha each. Based on the system request, the characteristic of the necessary pump was calculated, i.e. with a flow rate of 8.33 litres/second and a head of 3.8 bar.

The Project
The system is fed by a reservoir. Below is the starting document and the result of the hydraulic simulation for one shift:
For the quality of the water (contains sand, vegetation and suspended material) a primary filtration has been provided consisting of a double chamber sand filter and a mesh sector filtration.
For the altimetric trend of the main pipeline, vents and drains were inserted.
For the irrigation of the bamboo, a dripline was chosen with self-compensating emitters placed at 75 mm with a flow rate of 2 litres/hour.
